Ethiopian Airlines has signed a partnership agreement with the African Development Bank to build Africa's largest airport at a cost of $7.8 billion.

The new airport, “Bishoftu” Airport, will be a major hub for connecting Ethiopia to the world, increasing the airport's capacity from 17 million to more than 60 million passengers annually by 2040.

Ethiopia, with a population of about 120 million, is facing economic difficulties as inflation rises and the local currency depreciates, with an economic reform program in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund.
