The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed that approximately $1.3 billion in airline funds remains held by governments and has not been remitted by the end of April 2025. This is a significant amount, despite a 25 percent improvement compared to the $1.7 billion held in October 2024.

IATA called on governments to remove all barriers preventing airlines from repatriating their revenues from ticket sales and other activities in a timely manner, in accordance with international agreements and treaties. IATA expects sustainable aviation fuel production to reach two million tons (2.5 billion liters) in 2025, equivalent to only 0.7 percent of total airline fuel consumption. This small amount will add $4.4 billion to the global fuel bill.
