Taxes accounted for 75 percent of Jordan's total public revenues during the first five months of this year.
The latest central bank data showed that tax revenues from January to May rose to about $4.1 billion. According to data based on figures from the Ministry of Finance, domestic revenues rose to $ 5.47 billion as a result of the increase in some of its constituent items, especially tax revenues derived from various taxes such as sales and income taxes, customs duties, and others. Taxes are divided between the sales tax of 16 percent on all but a few goods and services, income tax on profits and income of individuals, special tax on some goods and services exceeding 50 percent and 60 percent, customs duties, and other tax classifications.
