Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi revealed that the revenues of the Suez Canal amounted to $ 10 billion annually, and fell by between 40 and 50 percent due to global events.

"It is difficult for countries in Africa, including Egypt, to make pledges to reduce emissions because they need huge funding," Sisi said.

Egypt's Suez Canal revenues are likely to decline by 44 percent in January, year-on-year, due to the threat to shipping in the Red Sea region and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, where the world's largest shipping companies diverted their ships to the Cape of Good Hope route to avoid Houthi attacks.
