Remittances from Egyptians working abroad saw a significant surge in the first ten months of the current fiscal year, reaching around $29.4 billion between July 2024 and April 2025, up from $16.6 billion in the same period of FY 2023–2024—a 77.1% increase.
According to the Central Bank of Egypt, remittances jumped 72.3% year-on-year in the January–April 2025 period, hitting $12.4 billion compared to $7.2 billion. On a monthly basis, they rose by 39% in April to $3 billion, up from $2.2 billion in March.
Remittances are Egypt’s second-largest source of foreign currency after exports, followed by tourism and revenues from the Suez Canal.
