Amr Samdouni, Secretary General of the International Transport and Logistics Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, warned that the Red Sea crisis has begun to disrupt the movement of global supply chains in general, specifically, food shipments that reach consumers around the world.
He pointed out that the tensions in the Bab al-Mandab area in the Red Sea have had a negative impact on ship traffic in the Suez Canal. Citing the statements of the head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, who revealed that the percentage of ship traffic in the canal decreased by approximately 30 percent between January 1 and 11, 2024 on an annual basis, and dollar revenues decreased by about 40 percent during the same period.
