A recent study published by Bloomberg revealed that unusual climate events have caused immediate, short-term spikes in the prices of basic food commodities, forcing poor households to reduce the quantity of food they consume.

The study, conducted by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, linked dozens of extreme climate events to sharp increases in food prices, highlighting the vulnerability of food systems to environmental shocks.

The findings also show that some food items are experiencing sharp price increases in the short term, contributing to inflation. Data from international and UN-affiliated organizations focused on food security and poverty alleviation agree that food prices have been consistently rising since June 2020, leaving governments grappling with a major crisis.
