Inflation accelerated in Egypt's cities in March, reaching 13.6% year-on-year compared to 12.8% in February, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

This is the first rise in inflation figures in the last six months, since August, affected by factors such as increases in fuel prices and tickets for public transport, including trains and subways. This was also preceded by a 300 percent increase in the price of a loaf of subsidized bread in May, the first such increase in more than three decades. On a monthly basis, inflation in Egyptian cities increased to 1.6 percent in March from 1.4 percent in February.
