US President Donald Trump plans to impose tariffs on cars in the range of 25 percent, as well as similar duties on semiconductors and pharmaceutical imports, in the latest in a series of measures that threaten to cause disruptions to international trade.
Trump announced that the auto tariffs would take effect on April 2, the day after he received reports from members of his cabinet outlining options for a range of import tariffs, as part of his efforts to reshape global trade.
Trump reiterates what he calls the "unfair treatment" of U.S. auto exports to foreign markets.
