According to the latest survey from China's National Bureau of Statistics, China's manufacturing sector contracted in January. The sector's purchasing managers' index fell in January to 49.1 points. A reading below 50 indicates a contraction in the sector's economic activity, while a reading above 50 indicates growth in activity.

The pace of growth in services activity slowed, with the sector's purchasing managers' index recording 50.2 points compared to 52.2 points last month. The composite index, which includes the manufacturing and services sectors, fell to 50.1 points, while it was expected to fall to 52.1 points from 52.2 points in December.
