Inflation in China slowed in December, while producer prices continued to contract amid weak economic demand.

According to the data, the consumer price index rose about 0.1 percent last month, year-on-year, compared to a 0.2 percent increase in November. Thus, inflation in the world's second-largest economy was at its weakest pace since last April.

The consumer price index remained flat on a monthly basis, versus a 0.6 percent decline in November. Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and fuel prices, rose about 0.4 percent last month, compared with 0.3 percent in November, a five-month high.
