Oil prices steadied on Thursday after fears of lower demand dispelled gains from the previous session, spurred by the impact of Hurricane Francine on output in the United States, the world's top crude producer. November Brent crude futures rose 24 cents, or 0.34 percent, to$70.86 a barrel. U.S. October crude futures rose 20 cents, or 0.30 percent, to $67.52 a barrel.

Crude oil futures rose more than 2 percent in the previous session as offshore platforms in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico closed and refining operations were disrupted by Hurricane Francine's landfall in southern Louisiana on Wednesday.
