Inflation in America Slows to the Lowest Level Since 2021

Inflation in the United States slowed in August at the lowest level since 2021. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the consumer price index hit 2.5 percent last month, the lowest level since February 2021, compared to 2.9 percent in July. The consumer price index grew about 0.2 percent in August on a monthly basis.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, rose about 0.3 percent last month, higher than expected at 0.2 percent. On an annual basis, the index recorded 3.2 percent, in line with expectations.
