The Jordanian Department of Statistics revealed that the unemployment rate recorded 21.4 percent during the first quarter of 2024, a slowdown of 0.5 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023, and steadily on a quarterly basis. The male unemployment rate fell by 2.2 percentage points year-on-year, to 17.4 percent. On the other hand, the female rate increased by 4.0 percentage points at 34.7 percent, compared to the same period, the highest since the first quarter of 2021. The unemployment rate among university degree holders was the highest (25.8 percent).
The proportion of employed persons among the total population aged 15 years and over and 23 years and over was 26.8 and 34.2 percent, respectively. 59.4 percent of male workers were concentrated in the 20-39 age group, while 59.8 percent were female.
