China's GDP in the first quarter of 2024 grew by 5.3 percent, in a pace that exceeded expectations, as it was achieved despite the real estate crisis hitting the country and the slowdown in consumption rates due to economic concerns.

A group of experts polled by AFP had expected China's economy to grow in the first quarter of the year at 4.6 percent. But the figures published by the National Bureau of Statistics beat experts' expectations, with quarterly growth reaching 5.3 percent, more than Beijing's target of about 5 percent this year.
