British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt predicted that the British economy will grow 0.8 percent this year after entering a recession in the second half of 2023, in his last financial statement, likely ahead of elections expected this year.

The new growth figure was slightly stronger than the 0.7 percent expansion forecast in the previous forecast for 2024, published by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OPR) in November.

These projections were compared with the Office for Budget Responsibility's previous growth forecast of 1.4 and 2.0 percent in 2025 and 2026.
