Growth in Chinese exports and imports in January and February exceeded expectations, reflecting improved global trade and sending an encouraging signal to policymakers after a protracted slowdown in manufacturing that weighed on the economy.

According to Chinese customs data, China's exports in the two months were 7.1 percent higher than a year earlier, beating Reuters' forecast growth of 1.9 percent. Imports rose 3.5 percent, compared with expectations of a 1.5 percent rise.
