The Union of Arab Chambers participated in the introductory symposium for the project of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Swedish International Development Agency to establish and activate the Arab Accreditation Authority (ARAC), which was held in Amman - the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, under the title: “Strengthening the Accreditation Value Chain in the Arab Region - Achievements and Prospects,” under the patronage of the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yousef Al-Shamali.
During the symposium activities, the Union of Arab Chambers noted the efforts of the parties contributing to the implementation and success of this project, and the importance of activating the activities of the Arab Accreditation Authority to enable Arab countries to benefit from a unified Arab accreditation body, in order to encourage trade and enhance quality to ensure economic sustainability.
At the conclusion of the symposium, a shield was presented as a token of thanks and gratitude to the Union of Arab Chambers in appreciation of its efforts since the beginning of the project’s implementation.
In addition, the Union of Arab Chambers participated in the work of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, which was held at the ESCWA headquarters in Beirut, in line with the global trend towards enhancing the participation of the private sector in implementing the 2030 Agenda. Private sector leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders participated in the forum, where discussions centered on stimulating action to achieve sustainability.
During the forum, the Union of Arab Chambers presented a presentation on the main organizational and administrative obstacles that hinder the private sector’s effective participation in sustainability initiatives. The Union proposed some specific strategies and incentives in policies that governments should provide that would encourage Arab companies to increase investments and participate in achieving sustainable development goals.
