The Central Bureau of Statistics in Sudan revealed that the annual inflation rate decreased to 258.40 percent in February, from 259.8 percent in January, a slight decrease of 1.39 points.
The Agency attributed the reason for the continuation of the significant increase in the general level of prices to the rise in the general level of prices in February of the previous year (2021), where the monthly inflation rate of the General Price Index for consumer and service goods recorded 14.39 percent during the month of February 2022, compared to an average of 2.06 percent, in January 2022.
The transportation group recorded the highest percentage of contribution to the monthly inflation rate of the general price index, while the contribution of consumer and service goods in February amounted to 87.13 percent, due to the rise in fuel prices. It was followed by the food and beverage group with a percentage of 4.00%, then the total of household fixtures and equipment and regular maintenance work with 3.07 percent, due to the high prices of cement and other household maintenance equipment. Then came the group of housing, water, electricity, gas and other types of fuel, which amounted to 1.84%, due to the rise in electricity tariffs and gas prices with a group of various goods and services by 1.26 percent.
