Bahrain has launched a bundle of major development projects, as part of a plan to support the country's economic recovery, including the construction of five new cities and modern projects in the tourism, trade, transport and infrastructure sectors. Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, said that the priority of implementing major development projects includes launching a package of strategic projects worth more than $30 billion, as part of a plan to achieve economic growth and balance in the public finances that was announced last month.
Al Khalifa noted the "establishment of a commercial zone with the United States to be a regional center for trade, manufacturing, logistics and distribution," stressing that "a project package consisting of five new and existing cities consisting of more than 20 projects, will contribute to the development of the infrastructure and communications, tourism, industry, education, health, housing, youth and sports sectors, and to the strengthening of Bahrain's economic position and competitiveness, creating promising quality opportunities, and achieving sustainable growth in accordance with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030."
