The UAE Leads the Gulf Countries in the Construction of Hotel Projects

A report issued by "Top Hotel Projects" revealed that within the next few years until 2024, the Gulf states will witness the opening of 473 hotels currently under construction, comprising 158 thousand and 161 rooms, of which the UAE and Saudi Arabia will hold the largest share.

According to the report, 155 new hotels will be opened this year, with a capacity of 44,062 thousand rooms, across the region, while it is expected that 2022 will also be crowded with 149 projects and a capacity of 52,974 thousand rooms.

The UAE topped the Gulf countries in the number of new hotel projects under construction with about 203 new hotel projects with a capacity of 60,419 thousand new hotel rooms until 2024, Saudi Arabia followed it in second place with 161 projects, but due to the enormous size of some of its projects, the total number of rooms in the Kingdom reaches 72,243 thousand rooms, easily superior to the Emirates with nearly 12 thousand rooms.

In third place came Qatar, which is working on opening 46 new hotels with a capacity of 13,117 thousand rooms, followed by the Sultanate of Oman with 32 projects with a capacity of 6293 rooms, Bahrain with 18 hotels with a capacity of 3,835 rooms, and finally Kuwait with 13 hotels with a capacity of 2254 rooms.

In terms of cities, Dubai has acquired more than 70 percent of new hotel projects in the UAE, with 145 projects with a capacity of 44,763 rooms. While it is expected that the Saudi capital, Riyadh, will witness the opening of 41 new hotels with a capacity of 9595 rooms, followed directly by Jeddah with 38 hotel projects and 9408 rooms, while the construction of 28 hotel projects in Makkah, with a capacity of 32,668 rooms, is expected to be completed.
