Decrease of the Qatari Trade Balance Surplus of About 50%

The data released by the Qatari Planning and Statistics Authority showed that the surplus in the merchandise trade balance of Qatar decreased by 49.7 percent on an annual basis to 6.4 billion riyals during the month of September, and by 7 percent compared to the previous month of August.

The surplus of Qatar’s commodity balance was affected year-on-year by a drop in exports by 33.7 percent to 13.4 billion riyals, as well as a decline in the value of commodity imports by 7 billion riyals, or 6.4 percent, compared to September of 2019.

India ranked first in the list of “destination countries” for Qatar’s exports last September, with a value of 2.4 billion riyals, or 18.0 percent of the total value of Qatari exports, while China came to the top of the list of main countries of origin for Qatar’s imports with a value of 1.6 billion riyals, or 22.3 percent of the total value of commodity imports.

The value of the surplus of the trade balance of the State of Qatar decreased by 42.9 percent on an annual basis during the month of August 2020, while the value of the surplus of the trade balance of Qatar reached 6.92 billion riyals (1.92 billion dollars) in the month of July, compared to 12.11 billion riyals ($3.36 billion) in August 2019.
