Official statistics issued by the High Commission for Planning, the official body in charge of statistics, showed that inflation in Morocco increased by 1.4% last September, compared to the same month of 2019.
According to the commission, the increase resulted from the rise in food prices by 2.9% and non-food items by 0.5% on an annual basis. Transportation prices decreased by 0.2%, transportation 0.2%, entertainment and culture 1.1%, clothes and shoes 0.3%, against an increase in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.5%, education by 1.5%, and health by 0.7%.
On a monthly basis, the inflation rate increased by 0.3% in September 2020, compared to the previous month. Although inflation has risen on an annual basis by more than 1%, but the consumption demand in Morocco remains weak, driven by the negative consequences of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.
