The Jordanian trade deficit decreased in the first five months of this year, to reach 2.546 billion dinars, or 27.6 percent, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 3.581 billion dinars.
In its monthly report on foreign trade in Jordan, the Department of Statistics revealed that the value of total exports in the first five months of this year decreased by 10 percent, amounting to 1.983 billion dinars, compared to the same period last year, amounting to 2.203 billion dinars. According to the report, the value of exports decreased during the first five months of this year by 5.5 percent, or 1.736 billion dinars, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 1.838 billion dinars. The value of the re-exports amounted to 246.5 million dinars during the first five months of this year, a decrease of 32.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
As for imports, they decreased during the same comparison period by 20.8 percent, amounting to 4.528 billion dinars, compared to the same period last year. According to the report, the ratio of total export coverage of imports amounted to 43.8 percent in the first five months of this year, with a coverage rate of 38.5 percent, compared to the same period last year, representing an increase of 5.3 percentage points.
As for the monthly level, the value of national exports to Jordan amounted to 312.3 million dinars during the month of May of the current year, compared to 369.4 million dinars during the same month of last year, which indicates a decrease of 15.5 percent.
