Egypt has achieved the world's fourth-highest growth in performance in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019, released in September.
Egypt has advanced nine places, resulting the tourism sector to rank the 65th place in the world, from the previous 74th place. Egypt also advanced from 60th to fifth place in the strategy of tourism promotion and marketing.
According to the report, Egypt topped the MENA region in terms of environmental sustainability, cultural resources, and business travel, and was the best performer in terms of security and safety index, infrastructure and ports, and natural resources.
The report showed that the Egyptian government places the tourism sector on top of its priorities, which is measured in accordance with the increase in government spending on the sector, where Egypt advanced from 22nd to 18th, developing tourism marketing and promotion strategies; and improving air quality, infrastructure, and ports.
