The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Qatar's GDP growth to reach 2.6% this year, up from 2.2% in 2018, revealing that Qatar has managed to contain the impact of oil and diplomatic shocks over the past years, with surpluses achieved in several indicators.

According to the IMF, the restriction of spending and the delayed impact of oil prices on revenues will lead in 2019 to an improvement in the fiscal position to about 3% after reaching 2.3% in 2018. The current account surplus is expected to reach 4.6% of total GDP for 2019 in line with projected oil prices and import growth at a slower pace than GDP growth.

The IMF revealed that real GDP growth in Qatar stood at 2.2% in 2018, according to estimates, up from 1.6% in 2017. He pointed out that the central government's fiscal position in Qatar has turned into a surplus of 2.3% of GDP in 2018 compared to a large deficit in 2017.
