H.E. Rene Trabelsi, the Tunisian Minister of Tourism has announced the adoption of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan in the tourism sector, after obtaining promises from major tour operators to restore the European markets, especially the British and German ones, in addition to increasing the flow of tourists towards it this year to the borders of nine million tourists.

Mr. Trabelsi explained that "the Ministry of Tourism will launch a committee to review the classification of hostels and tourist hotels, as part of a strategy to develop the Tunisian tourism sector by the year 2020," adding that "this project will contribute to the development of hostels and hotel units in various tourist areas in terms of quality, self-insurance and hygiene, in line with the international standards in this field."

The rehabilitation plan of the Ministry of Tourism, together with the workers in the sector, addresses the weaknesses that often cause tough shocks after every crisis in the country. The quality of service and seasonality of the sector according to professionals, are of the most important weaknesses of Tunisian tourism, and are the reason of the global operators’ dissatisfaction, who have called for assessments of the quality of hotel services and upgrading them so that Tunisia can compete with the surrounding destinations of the Maghreb and the Mediterranean.

The international travel agency “Thomas Cook” promised to support the Tunisian destination by intensifying flights and delegations from Britain and other European countries. The agency representatives expected some 100,000 British tourists to arrive in Tunisia in 2019.
