Ahmed Abul-Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, said during a speech at the opening of the Fourth Economic and Social Development Summit in Beirut, "there is no sustainable stability without comprehensive growth, as the path to development has become known and It is not easy, others have taken already and it has its own requirements, the first of which is to achieve high rates of economic growth not less than 6% or 7% growth for an extended period of time."
Ahmed Aboul Gheit pointed out that "the current growth rates are not enough to achieve the desired development boom, and this remains subject to political stability and security paid for the absence of some countries," explaining that "despite the efforts made in previous years for economic advancement, the Arab region is still far from launching its full potential ".
He noted as well that half of the Arab world's exports are of petroleum products, and there is a great need to diversify economies, in order to protect them from the fluctuations associated with energy prices, as well as the need to improve the business environment and enhance competitiveness, entrepreneurship.
