Morocco's unemployment rate dropped to 10% at the end of September, down from 10.6% a year ago, the Moroccan High Commissioner for Planning said. According to the Commission, the number of unemployed fell from 64,000 to 1.172 million and this is attributed to the growth in employment opportunities in the services sector.
During a year, starting the third quarter of 2017, the economy provided 122,000 jobs compared to 89,000 in the previous year. The service sector provided 98,000 jobs, followed by industry and handicrafts with 19,000 jobs. Fisheries and agriculture sectors together accounted for 17% of Morocco's GDP, and added 9,000 jobs, while the construction sector lost 4,000 jobs.
In its annual estimates for 2018, the Commission expects the unemployment rate to remain stable at 10.4%, compared to 10.2% in 2017.
