Social Responsibility of the Private Sector & its Role in Sustainable Development

The social responsibility of the private sector has become one of the basic elements at all local and international levels, due to its positive impact on improving the standard of living, and facing many economic and social problems facing societies.

Therefore, Arab cooperation in social responsibility has become an urgent necessity, and it is important for governments to enact the necessary legislation for the management of the private sector to perform its societal role in developing and supporting education, training and entrepreneurship to create productive generations that keep pace with developments all over the world.

The Union of Arab Chambers has adopted the concept of social responsibility and placed it at the top of its priorities to achieve sustainable growth, establish a society based on equal opportunities and provide a better standard of living and environment.

The Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Bahrain, is known for its contribution to the process of establishing new SMEs, achieving growth in existing SMEs in the region, stimulating and directing entrepreneurial potential, in addition to its interest in the subject of social responsibility.

Noting that Hope MCF started since 2014 with the United Nations Development Program, the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior, the process of qualifying NGOs to ensure their transparency and increase the visibility of credible organizations.

Based on their cooperation, the Union of Arab Chambers, the Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Bahrain (UNIDO), and Hope MCF are organizing, on Monday, July 17, 2023, a conference entitled: "Social Responsibility of the Private Sector and its Role in Sustainable Development", in person at the Union's headquarters in Beirut and virtually through the ClinGroup platform.

The organization of the conference comes within the framework of countries' endeavors to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, as professional competence in social responsibility, transparency and competence in non-governmental organizations are of crucial importance for growth.

 

Conference objectives:

1- The importance of the role of the private sector in social responsibility programs and attention to the economic and social aspects of society.

2- Developing specific awareness of social responsibility and the importance of including it in corporate strategies.

3- The social responsibility of the private sector and how to build initiatives that serve the economy, society and the environment.

4- Laying down methodological frameworks that can be relied upon in developing social responsibility programs to achieve sustainable development and support the state through approving incentive legislation.

 

The main themes of the conference:

I. Shedding light on the roles achieved by the private sector in promoting and consolidating partnerships according to sustainable development paths.

II. Highlight the importance of monitoring and auditing the activities of the private sector, which contribute to the promotion of sustainable development

III. The role of the private sector in empowering women and girls, promoting gender equality, helping people with disabilities, supporting education and fighting poverty.

IV. Highlighting the obstacles and challenges facing the social responsibility of the private sector.

V. Developing appropriate plans for programs and strategies for social responsibility, sustainability and good corporate governance.

VI. Presentation of Arab experiences from the private sector and from non-governmental organizations that confirm the role achieved in the implementation of the national strategy for sustainable development.
