Recent assessments suggest that global travel in 2025 will swing in a lower growth range than expected, with disparities emerging from one region to another as a result of many factors that still clearly affect air travel activity. International air traffic to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong is expected to recover to almost its pre-pandemic levels, but the situation is different for the rest of the world as the sector suffers from the high cost of living, supply chain disruptions and regional conflicts.

A record 5.2 billion passengers will travel in 2025, according to IATA data, pushing airline revenues to exceed $1 trillion for the first time ever. IATA had expected that passenger revenues, the average amount a passenger pays to travel one mile, could decline by 3.4 percent in 2025 compared to 2024.
