The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) renewed the mandate of Secretary-General Haitham Al-Ghais for another 3 years at a virtual meeting held by the organization.
Al-Ghais took office in early August 2022 from Nigerian Mohamed Barkindo. The group will hold its next regular meeting on May 28. The renewal of Al-Ghais's mandate came at the 89th ordinary meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) conference, which also reviewed the report of the Secretary-General, the report of the Board of the Economic Committee, as well as a number of internal affairs.
The conference also appointed Ademola Adimi Biró, Governor of Nigeria for OPEC, as Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025, and Adib Al-Amma, Governor of Saudi Arabia to the Organization, as Alternate Chairman for the same period.
