The Egyptian Parliament Approves a Pension Increase at a Cost of $2.39 Billion

The Egyptian House of Representatives has finally approved a draft law submitted by the government on increasing pensions, accelerating the date of entitlement to periodic bonuses, granting a special allowance to those not addressed by the Civil Service Law, increasing the additional incentive for state workers, and determining a special grant for workers in public sector companies and the public business sector. The project approved a 15 percent increase in civil and military pensions, effective March 1, 2024, at a total cost of 74 billion pounds ($ 2.39 billion), with the Social Insurance Fund bearing the financial burden of accelerating the disbursement of the pension increase. Without prejudice to the entitlement to the annual increases stipulated under the law, starting from July 1, 2025.
