The Turkish city of Istanbul hosted a forum to support the recovery of the agricultural sector in Sudan, and discussed several topics, including finding facilities for the work of Turkish companies and investors in the Sudanese agricultural sector, and ways to overcome the obstacles facing the sector.
The forum comes within the framework of the initiative of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to improve the conditions of local and regional food security in Sudan, under the leadership of the Director-General of the Arab Organization to Support Agricultural Development and the early recovery efforts of the agricultural sector in Sudan, Ibrahim Al-Dukhiri.
The Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Jibril Ibrahim, said that Sudan has produced enough corn and sesame for its needs, stressing that the effort is currently underway to make the wheat season a success. He explained that "agriculture in Sudan is characterized by a very huge potential, vast and flat lands, more than 200 million acres, water, rivers and groundwater, estimated rainfall in the year 400 billion cubic meters, the land is one of the best agricultural land in the world in terms of germination of agriculture."
For his part, Ibrahim Al-Dukhiri explained that "we meet today in Istanbul and we hope to present to our beloved country Sudan and it has been hit by what hit it, and when the cursed war occurred in the country, the agricultural sector was affected by many sectors," pointing out that "in this meeting and in the presence of the Minister of Finance, ideas and visions will be presented, especially with regard to the roles of partners and the roles of the private sector, and the initiative includes supporting efforts to make the agricultural season a success and achieve early recovery and flexibility in the agricultural sector in order to achieve a platform for the reconstruction efforts of the Agricultural sector ".
The initiative of the National Call for Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction came in response to the delicate circumstance that Sudan is going through after the war it is witnessing, and is interested in providing humanitarian aid in coordination with working organizations and organizers to cover urgent needs, and is interested in working in the field of reconstruction and compensation for destroyed infrastructure, and was previously announced in Istanbul.
