Sudan achieved record growth in gold export revenues by the end of last year despite the war, which since it began nearly three years ago, continues to cast a dark shadow on the economy.
The Director General of the Sudanese Company for Mineral Resources, Mohamed Taher Omar, revealed that gold production increased from 42 tons in 2023 to 64 tons in 2024, with revenues amounting to about $ 1.9 billion through the export of more than 31 tons.
The country's gold production peaked between 2017 and 2022 with an average annual average of 107 tons. In 2022, gold topped the country's highest non-oil exports, with 46.3 percent of total exports, with a value of more than $2 billion.
