The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) revealed that Morocco leads the Arab region in wind energy production, accounting for 46 percent of total wind energy consumption. Morocco's electricity capacity from wind energy is about 1553 MW, while the solar capacity is 831 MW, out of 11055 MW of the total installed capacity.
According to the ESCWA report, the total renewable electricity generation capacity in the Arab region has doubled over the past decade to just over 22 GW in 2021. Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen have the highest shares of solar energy in the power generation mix, while Morocco tops the list in terms of wind energy with a share of 46 percent of total wind consumption in the region.
