Tourism Minister Moez Belhossein expected the Tunisian tourism sector to be affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war, pointing out that "The repercussions will have a direct and indirect impact."
He explained that "The Russian market is the second largest tourist market in Tunisia, as it recorded the year 2019, the year that became a reference for those who follow the performance of Tunisian tourism, at least 630,000 Russian and 330,000 Ukrainian tourists flocked to the country, which revived the tourism sector and made it register more than 5 billion Tunisian dinars (about $1.8 million) in financial revenues, and about 9.5 million tourists.”
During the year 2021, the revenues of the tourism sector increased by 8% compared to the results recorded during the year 2020. The Tunisian authorities had expected a growth of about 10 percent, but the effects of the pandemic and the confusion in the performance of the tourism sector had reduced those expectations. To overcome these negatives, the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism has prepared, since the beginning of this year, a local government strategy, its results will lead to an increase in the number of arrivals to Tunisia to reach the limits of 5.7 million tourists, with financial revenues of no less than 3.5 billion Tunisian dinars (about 1.23 billion dollars), during the total tourist season.
