The High Commission for Planning in Morocco (Statistics Authority) revealed that the results of national accounts for the past year 2019 showed a slowdown in the rate of growth of the national economy to reach 2.5 percent compared to 3.1 percent in 2018.

According to a commission’s report on the national economic situation during the past year, final consumption and external demand have been a locomotive of this growth, in a context characterized by controlling inflation and reducing the need to finance the national economy.

According to the delegate, the slowdown is due to a decrease in the value added of the agricultural sector to 5.8 percent, compared to an increase of 3.7 percent in 2018, in addition to an increase in the added value of 3.8 percent to other sectors of non-agricultural activities compared to 2.9 percent in 2018.

External exchanges of goods and services recorded a positive contribution to growth of half a percentage point compared to a negative contribution of 1.2 points compared to the year before last, when exports of goods and services registered an increase of only 5.5%. According to the delegate, the GDP at current prices increased by 3.9 percent compared to 4.3 percent before the last year, and the net income from the rest of the world decreased by 1.5 percent compared to a decline of 17 percent.
