The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Jordan agreed on the economic policies and reforms of 2019 following a visit initiated by a delegation from the Fund to Amman on 27 January.

According to the IMF, Jordan still needs financial support to boost its economic reforms and improve the working conditions. The Kingdom is implementing an expanded program of economic reform with the IMF aimed at reducing the public debt and budget deficit, increasing employment and controlling the public finances.

The 2019 reforms are based on the path of financial consolidation, the continuation of reforms to enhance working conditions and employment prospects, and support reforms from the international and regional donor community.

According to the Fund, the upcoming London conference represents a timely opportunity for Jordan to provide an ambitious and credible reform path to further strengthen the public finances and investment.

It also revealed that its staff would continue to consult with the Jordanian authorities and the donors’ community in the coming weeks to ensure adequate funding guarantees for the granting of budget and loans on concessional terms.
