Data from the Central Bank of Algeria showed a continued decline in external debt, reflecting the cautious financial policy pursued by Algerian authorities in recent years. Total external debt stood at $2.87 billion by the end of 2024, compared to nearly $3.832 billion at the end of 2019.

Long-term debt fell significantly from $1.568 billion in 2019 to $1.114 billion in 2024. Short-term debt reached $1.756 billion compared to $2.264 billion in 2019.
