A World Bank report revealed that food insecurity rates in Yemen have increased this year, with the number of affected people exceeding one million more, increasing the total number to about 18.6 million people suffering from this problem. According to the Bank's report discussing the modernization of food conditions in Yemen, 2024 saw a 6% increase in the number of people facing high levels of acute food insecurity compared to the previous year.
The World Bank showed that the cost of the food basket has risen to unprecedented levels as a result of the devaluation of the currency, the lack of purchasing power, and the high costs of fuel and agricultural inputs in areas under the control of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, which made “food unaffordable for many segments of the population, especially the most vulnerable.”
