Exceeding Expectations.. Inflation in America Reaches 2.4% in September

The annual inflation rate in the United States eased to 2.4% in September from 2.5% in August, surpassing expectations of 2.3%.

According to the US Department of Labor, the pace of price increases over the past year was higher than expected in September, while jobless claims recorded an unexpected jump.

The consumer price index, a broad-based measure that measures the costs of goods and services across the U.S. economy, rose 0.2 percent seasonally adjusted for the month, putting the annual inflation rate at 2.4 percent.

The annual inflation rate was 0.1 percentage points lower than in August and the lowest since February 2021.
