The Central Bank of Egypt revealed that core inflation in Egypt rose to 25.1 percent in August, compared to 24.4 percent in July. The inflation rate in Egypt’s cities also rose to 26.2 percent in August, compared to 25.7 percent in July.

The reasons for the increase, which came after 5 months of slowdown, were due to price increases for vegetables by 14.3 percent, transportation services by 14.9 percent, household appliances by 2.8 percent, and dairy, cheese, and eggs by 2.1 percent. The Electricity, Gas, and Fuels group rose 0.4 percent month-on-month but reached 17.8 percent year-on-year.
