The U.S. Department of Labor revealed that U.S. employers increased significantly fewer jobs than originally reported in the year to March. The ministry's estimate of total employment from April 2023 to March 2024 was reduced by 818,000.

The sharply low figure is the first of two of the ministry's "standard" annual reviews, which collect more accurate data that is only available in the months following the publication of the monthly salary report. If the number holds through the final review in February, it will be the biggest downward revision since a 902,000 percent reduction in March 2009.
