Qatar's balance of payments turned into a surplus during the first quarter of 2024 on an annual basis, while the surplus declined 65.48 percent from its level in the fourth quarter of 2023. The balance of payments recorded a surplus in the first three months of this year of 600 million riyals ($ 169.380 million), compared to a deficit of 3.986 billion riyals in the first quarter of the previous year, according to the Qatar Central Bank.
The annual surplus of the Qatari balance of payments was supported by a decline in the capital and fiscal account deficit by 12.65 percent to 33.985 billion riyals, compared to 38.905 billion riyals in the first quarter of last year. This comes due to the decrease in the fiscal and capital account deficits by 12.54 percent and 42.25 percent, respectively, at 33.903 billion riyals and 82 million riyals, respectively.
