The average inflation figures in Qatar slowed during the first quarter of this year to 2.22 percent compared to 4.2 percent in the corresponding quarter of 2023.
The decline in the inflation index in Qatar during the first 3 months of 2024 was supported by the contraction of the prices of the housing, electricity, and water group by 2.2 percent, which represents about 21 percent of the index's weight. Qatar's inflation index came out from negative to positive in March 2021 before hitting its highest level in December of the same year at 6.5 percent. The Qatar Central Bank's tightening monetary policies since March 2022 also contributed to the slowdown in the inflation rate in the Gulf state, to record a 36-month low of 0.98 percent in March.
