A recent study by the National University of Singapore shows that Singapore's economic losses due to heat stress could nearly double to $1.64 billion in 2035, from 2018 due to lower labor productivity.
Thermal pressures caused an 11.3 percent drop in 2018 in average productivity across Singapore's four major economic sectors – services, construction, manufacturing, and agriculture. It is on its way to worsening. The decline in productivity is expected to rise to 14 percent in 2035, resulting in an economic loss of S$2.22 billion ($1.64 billion), adjusted for inflation.
