British wages, excluding bonuses, grew at the slowest pace since October 2022 in the three months to the end of January, while the unemployment rate unexpectedly rose.

According to the Office for National Statistics, regular wage growth fell to 6.1 percent in the three months to January from 6.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent from 3.8 percent, reversing the decline in the fourth quarter of last year, although the Office for National Statistics is still in the process of reviewing its household survey.
