The Sultanate of Oman recorded a jump in passenger traffic through its airports in the first nine months of this year, in a shift that will help generate more revenues from the travel and tourism sectors.

The figures of the Government Statistics Center showed that the number of international and domestic flights arriving and departing through various airports in the country increased from the beginning of January to the end of last September, to more than 55.8 thousand flights, compared to about 26.6 thousand flights on an annual basis.

The number of departures through Oman's airports also increased during the same period by 120 percent compared to the same period last year.

The statistics revealed an increase in the number of international and domestic flights arriving and departing through Muscat International Airport by 113.6 percent, to reach about 47.9 thousand flights in nine months, carrying nearly six million passengers, compared to 2.37 million passengers a year ago.
