Data from the Government Statistics Institute in Tunisia showed that the trade deficit reached 21.3 billion dinars, or about $6.6 billion, until the end of last October, an increase of about 62% compared to the same period last year, when the deficit was estimated at about $13.3 billion.

According to the foreign trade bulletin issued by the institute, the trade deficit remains a result of the imbalance in trade exchanges with some countries, including China, which ranks first in the list of countries causing trade deficits, with a value of 7.3 billion dinars. Followed by Turkey with a value of 3.3 billion dinars, then Algeria with 2.9 billion dinars.

The bulletin showed that commercial exchanges maintained the same trend during the first ten months of the current year, characterized by a more dynamic pace at the level of imports, as exports witnessed an improvement of 24.9% compared to 20.9% during the first ten months of 2021. The value of exports reached 47.3 billion dinars, compared to 38 billion dinars during the same period in 2021. As for imports, they rose by 34%, compared to 21.6% during the first ten months of 2021, and amounted to 68.6 billion dinars, compared to 51.2 billion dinars recorded during the same period in 2021.
